Chickweed (Stellaria media)

An indigenous creeping and ascending small herb, occurs among short grass in open places, gardens and cultivated grounds in upper hill country. Locally common. Flowering from December to February.

    Is 'kukula pala' same and what is 'pethiwena"?
    Kindly clarify these please..

  2. No Sinhalese name mentioned in any literature on Sri Lankan flora for this species. But another species of same Caryophyllaceae family -Drymaria cordata- is known as Kukulu pala. Its English name also West indian chickweed. But unlike this it is a native herb. No idea about pethiwena.

  3. I have heard kukulu pala in the normal village talk. But do not ever eat/use those herbs without prescription from a good doctor or a trusted Ayurveda book or a close family member.
