if you can, next time can you post a full image of the plant too? you are posting pictures of so many important plants. but as we are not familier with them, though we see the plants difficult to identify. hope you understand my point and help in some way.
ReplyDeletethanks for posting.
Identification of plants mainly base on details of flowers and leaves. Overview picture of a plant is no use when it come to distinguish a certain plant from similar other. It is true you might be able to identify one or other plant just by observing it in the field but when it come to a picture of it with like 600X400 pxl size which can be easily posted in a internet like this it would be no use for any one to distinguish it from similar other. True that you can distinguish the coconut tree if I would post here a coconut tree and mango tree. But will you be able to distinguish two trees If I would post a mango tree and a Jambu tree? Identifying any particular plant or tree out of nearly 3000-4000 species found in Sri Lanka is not easy task without having sound botanical knowledge of certain characteristics of their flowers, leaves, fruits, etc. I am providing those necessary details here as much as I can. But yes I agree with you that a lay person without having basic knowledge on those stuffs it would be an impossible task just by going through these pictures I have been posting here. But posting a small image of whole plant would not be also a solution. Hope you got my point?
