Fuchsia regia

An introduced scandent or climbing shrub native to  montane cloud forest of coastal Brazil. Cultivated as an ornamental. Also escaped and naturalized in disturbed forests and along roads above 1800 m elevations.

Ludwigia hyssopifolia

An introduced herb with origin uncertain. Common in open wet disturbed sites such as stream banks, ditches, paddy field & tanks margins, rock crevices and openings in dry and wet zone forests from sea level to 200 m altitudes.

බෙරු දියනිල්ල[Beru-diyanilla]/Peruvian primerose-willow(Ludwigia peruviana)

Native plant of tropical and sub-tropical America. Introduced and naturalized in wet places such as stream banks, flood plains, disturbed places, etc. from 150 to about 1500 m elevations. Very common.

An indigenous common herb with prostrate floating stems, grows in water margins of ponds, tanks and flooded paddy fields in the low country.

Mosaic plant (Ludwigia sedoides)

Mosaic plant is a very recent addition to the flora of Sri Lanka. It is a native plant of tropical central and South America. It was introduced as an ornamental plant and now naturalized in some Sri Lankan wetlands. It was originally recorded from Southwest Sri Lanka (De Vlas J. & J. 2008) and spreading. Above picture was taken at Pahuru Ela marsh of Kelani basin close to the Malvana town.
