Show Poppy (Eomecon chionantha)

An introduced herb native to the Eastern China. Escaped from cultivation and naturalized in shady places of the hill country. 

Black Wattle (Acacia mearnsii)

An introduced tree native to Australia. Planted in some locations in the higher hills. An invasive tree in some other countries where this tree has been introduced (Vlas J. & Vlas J., 2014). Dasanayaka M.D & Fosberg F.R, 1980. recorded it from Pattipola. Few trees can be still observed along the road from Pattipola to Ohiya via Horton Plains National Park. Will it be a threat to the native and rare endemic plants of the Horton Plains National Park sooner or later?

Sticky Mouse Ear (Cerastium glomeratum)

An introduced annual herb probably native to the Europe.Common in the wet montane zone from 1800 to 2400 m elevations.

Thyme leaved Speedwell (Veronica serpyllifolia)

An introduced herb native to Eurasia. Common in the lawns, roadsides, cultivated grounds and rocky hill tops in the upper hill country above 1800 m a.s.l.

Striped rush leaf/Spreading blue eyed grass (Sisyrinchium micranthum [Syn: Sisyrinchium iridifolium])

An introduced herb native to Tropical America. Escaped and naturalized among grasses along roadsides and open places in the montaze zone.  Flowers open around 10 AM and close late afternoon. Flowering intermittently throughout the year. 

Wax begonia/Free flowering begonia(Begonia cucullata)

An introduced herb native to Tropical America (Brazil to Uruguay) Very common in central hills along roadsides and in tea plantations.

Quick weed (Galinsoga parviflora)

An introduced herb native to tropical South America. A common weed in cultivated grounds and wastelands. Flowering throughout the year.

White frangipani/Bridal bouquet (Plumeria pudica)

An introduced shrub native to Panama, Colombia and Venezuela. Cultivated as an ornamental in home gardens. 

Desert Rose (Leuenbergeria bleo)

An introduced shrub native to Panama, Columbia and Venezuela. Cultivated in home gardens as an ornamental. 

ලොකට්/Loquat/Japan Plum/Japanese Medlar (Rhaphiolepis bibas [Syn: Eriobotrya japonica])

An introduced fruit tree native to the Japan and China. Occasionally cultivated in hill country gardens for its edible fruits and fragrant flowers. 

White clover/Dutch clover (Trifolium repens)

An introduced climbing herb native to Europe. Naturalized among grasses in the hill country.

Flame Tree (Brachychiton acerifolius)

A native tree of Australia. Introduced to Sri Lanka in 1882 (Macmillan H.F., 1910).  "Several herbarium specimens collected from the South Garden of the Peradeniya available, but doubtless widely cultivated elsewhere 'eg. Talawakelle Estate, Nuwaraeliya District" (Dassanayake M.D. et. al., 1995). This single tree was observed at a roadside location of Boralanda - Haputhale B353 road near Glananore Estate. Flowering in May and June with large masses of red blossoms, when the tree is bare of leaves. 

Small hop clover/Least hop clover (Trifolium dubium)

An introduced herb native to Europe, Asia minor and Northern Asia. Naturalized along roadsides and open places among grasses in the higher hills of Central and Uva provinces.

Flower - 4mm long in heads of 5 - 7 mm
Leaflets- 5 - 10 mm long

Coleus lanuginosus [Syn: Plectranthus lanuginosus]

An introduced herb native to tropical Africa. Naturalized in waste places and along roadsides of the upper hill country. Mainly in and around Nuwaraeliya.

රට අත්තන/තුන්බෝ අත්තන[Rata Attana/Thunbo Attana]/Trumpet flower/Angel's trumpet (Brugmansia × candida)

Tall shrub or small tree. A hybrid between Brugmansia aurea and Brugmansia versicolor of the Andes. Introduced as an ornamental hedge. 

Ribwort Plantain (Plantago lanceolata)

An introduced perennial herb native to Europe and north and central Asian countries. Naturalized in grassy places, forest edges, roadsides and as a weed in cultivated fields of the upper montane zone. Flowering throughout the year. Common around the Nuwaraeliya. 

Trailing St. John's wort (Hypericum humifusum)

An introduced herb native to the Europe. Naturalized in open places of the upper montane zone. 

Balloon Cottonbush (Gomphocarpus physocarpus)

An introduced herb or small shrub native to the South and tropical Africa. Cultivated, escaped and naturalized mainly in the hill country (Below Hakgala on the way to the former Fort Macdonald ). Flowering throughout the year.

Distimake cissoides[Syn: Merremia cissoides]

Native vine of tropical America. Introduced and naturalized in disturbed sites, cultivated grounds and roadsides. 

Khaki weed (Alternanthera pungens)

Native prostrate herb of tropical ans sub tropical America. Introduced and now a common weed in dry sandy places, disturbed grounds and roadsides.
