Platostoma menthoides [Syn: Geniosporum tenuiflorum]

An indigenous herb in open , sandy grounds mainly near the shore in both dry and wet lowlands. Flowering from January to July.

Ipomoea coptica

An indigenous annual vine rare in sandy places, especially near the coast of the northern dry zone.

Flower Size: About 1.3 cm across.

Cyphostemma setosum

 An indigenous herbaceous scrambler of open sandy vegetations, usually near the coast including salt flats but not on dunes. 

Flower Size: 0.3-0.5 cm

Lindernia hyssopioides

 An indigenous herb very common in paddy fields and borders of ponds in the wet lowlands and of the wet hill country up to 550 m elevations. 

Utricularia caerulea

 An indigenous terrestrial herb of wet grasslands, shallow soil overlaying rocks, stream sides and damp open vegetations from sea level to 2300 m elevations. Flowering more or less throughout the year.

කඳුලැස්ස/Indian Sundew (Drosera indica)

An indigenous  small herb of moist places near paddy fields, swamps, ditches, shallow pools and wet patanas. Common in lowlands and sometimes in lower hills. 

Canscora heteroclita

 An indigenous slender herb common in exposed, damp, grassy places, usually among rocky outcrops in the northern, western and eastern parts of the dry lowlands and in the dry intermediate region.  Flowering from October to February.

Centranthera tranquebarica

An indigenous herb of damp grassy places close to water sources, ponds or paddy fields in both dry and wet zones. Rather rare and flowering from May to February..

White Witchweed (Striga angustifolia)

 

An indigenous herb fairly common along roadsides and open country among short grass in the dry zone and in open grassy slopes of the wet lowlands and the hill country. The plant parasite the roots of grasses. Flowering from August to October and December to May. 

කොර කහ/Blue-Mist(Memecylon umbellatum)

 An indigenous large shrub or small tree common mainly in the dry zone forests and scrublands. Leaves yields a yellow dye. 

එනසාල්/රට එනසාල්/කරඳමුංගු (Elettaria cardamomum)

An indigenous large herb widely cultivated. Wild specimens rare. The seeds provide the cardamom of commerce.  

බක් මී/රට බක්මී (Nauclea orientalis)

An indigenous tree common in dry deciduous forests and secondary forests of the moist regions.

Diospyros montana

An indigenous tree common in scrub lands of the dry zone. 

Smilax aspera

 An indigenous much-branched climbing shrub rather common in montane zone. Flowering in April.  

ලාවුළු (Donella lanceolata [Syn: Chrysophyllum roxburghii])

 An indigenous common tree of primary and secondary wet evergreen forests from 30 to 900 m elevations, often by river banks.

Stellaria pauciflora

 An indigenous annual herb rare in shaded, moist places in lower montane zone from 915 to 1220 m elevations. Flowering in April.  

Clinopodium umbrosum

 An indigenous herb fairly common in wet patanas, along borders of marshy lands and slopes of tea plantations close to water courses of the wet up country from 2000 to 3600 m elevations. Flowering all the year round. 

Flower Size: 0.4 - 0.6 cm across

Peperomia tetraphylla

 An indigenous perennial herb locally common on mossy rocks and trees in montane forests above 1000 m altitudes. 

Seaside Purslane/Shore Purselane/මහ සාරණ (Sesuvium portulacastrum)

 An indigenous prostrate herb common on beaches and near the coast. 

Digera muricata

 An indigenous annual herb locally common along roadsides and gardens of dry and sandy places.
