Striped rush leaf/Spreading blue eyed grass (Sisyrinchium micranthum [Syn: Sisyrinchium iridifolium])

An introduced herb native to Tropical America. Escaped and naturalized among grasses along roadsides and open places in the montaze zone.  Flowers open around 10 AM and close late afternoon. Flowering intermittently throughout the year.

Montbretia (Crocosmia × crocosmiiflora)

An introduced ornamental herb cultivated at high elevations. Escaped and naturalized in open places, along roadsides, footpaths etc. It is a fertile hybrid between Crocosmia pottsi and Crocosmia aurea both native to Africa.

Blue Stars (Aristea ecklonii)


 Native plant of southeastern Africa, South Africa, Uganda and Madagascar. Introduced to Sri Lanka and escaped from the Hakgala botanical garden and naturalized in patana lands and roadsides in only higher altitudes of Nuweraeliya district. Common around Hakgala and in patana lands of Horton plains. Flowers open early morning and close before noon.
