Rather rare native herb found under shade along forest borders, waste lands and paddy field borders from wet lowlands to about 1100 m elevations in lower hills. Flowering from May to November.

Bluewings/Wishbone flower (Torenia fournieri)

Native herb of Indo China. Introduced and cultivated in gardens. Flowering from March to June and September (Possibly in other months as well). Various cultivars with pink, violet and blue flowers exist.

Recent addition to the Flora of Sri Lanka*. Rather rare introduced herb of marshy areas of the southwestern wet zone. Usually grows under shade of shrubs. But also occurs on open places.

An indigenous herb grows in wet places among grass and on damp rocks in the dry lowlands and the wet hills up to about 650 m a.s.l. Less commonly occurs also in the wet lowlands. Flowering throughout the year.

Torenia leucosiphon [As Torenia travancorica]

Common indigenous herb of shaded footpaths usually along forest borders of wet low country and lower hills. This Torenia species can be distinguished from other three species grows in Sri Lanka by orange-yellow color of lower half of corolla tube.  Flowering throughout the year.
