කළුවන් හම්බු කුරුල්ලා/වන ප්‍රීනියා (Prinia sylvatica vailda)

එතරම් සුලභ නොවන ලෙස පහත රට වියලි කලාපයේ ලඳු කැලෑ සහ තෘණ භූමිවලත්, පහත රට තෙත් කලාපයේ අතරින් පතර ස්ථානීය වශයෙන් කඳුකරයේ මධ්‍යම උස් මට්ටම් දක්වාත් හමුවන දේශීය පක්ෂියෙකි. ඉහල කඳුකරය දෙසට යන විට වඩාත් දුර්ලභ වේ. ජෝඩු ලෙසින් හෝ කුඩා රංචු ලෙසින් සැරිසරන මෙම පක්ෂියා වසරේ පෙබරවාරි සිට මැයි දක්වා කාලයේ තණකොල සහ මුල් කෑලි ආදිය මකුළු දැල් වලින් එකතු කර තණකොල පඳුරක හෝ වෙනත් එවැනි පඳුරක පහල මට්ටමේ බෝලයක හැඩය ඇති කූඩුවක් තනා එහි බිත්තර 2- 4 අතර ප්‍රමාණයක් දමා අභිජනනය කරයි.

ළයළු ප්‍රීණියා/ළය අළු හම්බූ කුරුල්ලා (Prinia hodgsonii)


පහත රට තැනි බිමේ සිට කඳුකරයේ මධ්‍යම උස් මට්ටම් දක්වා දිවි ගෙවන එතරම් සුලභ නොවන දේශීය පක්ෂියෙකි. වියලි කලාපයේ තරමක් සුලභව හමුවන මුත් තෙත් කලාපයේ දුර්ලභය. ජෝඩු වශයෙන් හෝ කුඩා රංචු ලෙසින් වනාන්තර මායිම් වල, ලඳු බිම් වල සහ තෘණ භූමි වල සලබයන්, තණකොළ පෙත්තන් සහ  දලඹුවන් වැනි කුඩා කෘමීන් ආහාරයට ගනිමින් සැරිසරයි. වසරේ මාර්තු සිට ජූනි දක්වා කාලයේ බට්ටිච්චන් මෙන් පොළවේ සිට අඩි දෙකක් හෝ තුනක් පමණ උසින් ගසක පොකට්ටුවක් ලෙස විශාල කොළ දෙකක් හෝ කුඩා කොළ කිහිපයක් එකතු කර "මසා" ඒ තුල කූඩුවක් තනා එහි බිත්තර තුනක් පමණ දමා අභිජනනය කරයි.

බැම සුදු හම්බු කුරුල්ලා/සරල ප්‍රීනියා (Prinia inornata insularis)

පහත රට තැනිතලා බිම් වල සිට මධ්‍යම කඳුකරයේ පහල කඳු පන්තීන් දක්වා ලඳු කැලෑ, කුඹුරු සහ වගුරු බිම් ආශ්‍රීතව, එම හමුවන ස්ථාන වල සුලභව දැකිය හැකි දේශීය පක්ෂියෙකි. සාපේක්ෂව වියලි කලාපයේ වඩාත් සුලභය. බැම සුදු හම්බු කුරුල්ලන් තනිව හෝ ජෝඩු වශයෙන් දවසේ වැඩි කාලයක් තණකොල පඳුරු අතර එහෙ මෙහෙ පනිමින් ඔවුන්ගේ ප්‍රධාන ආහාරය වන කෘමීන් ගොදුරු කරගන්නා ආකාරය දැක ගත හැක. බොහෝ විට වසර පුරාම පාහේ අභිජනනයේ යෙදෙන අතර ගැඹුරු කෝප්පයක ආකාර කූඩුව,  පරඩැල් වලින් තණකොළ පඳුරක් හෝ මිටි පඳුරක් මත පොළව මතුපිට හෝ බොහෝවිට වගුරු බිමක නම් ජලය මතු පිට සිට අඩියක් හෝ අඩි තුනක් පමණ උඩින් තනන අතර, එහි බිත්තර තුනෙ සිට පහ දක්වා අතර ප්‍රමාණයක් දමා අභිජනනයේ යෙදේ.

හම්බු කුරුල්ලා/ඉරි පවන්සැරියා (Cisticola juncidis)

 මුහුදු වෙරළ ආසන්න ප්‍රදේශ වල සිට ඉහල කඳුකරයේ මහඑලිය (හෝර්ටන් තැන්න ජාතික උද්‍යානය) දක්වාම දිවයින පුරාම උස තෘණ වර්ග සහිත තණ බිම්, වගුරු බිම්, වැව් අද්දර මෙන්ම කුඹුරු වලද දැකිය හැකි සුලභ පක්ෂියෙකි. තනිව හෝ ජෝඩු වශයෙන් හමුවන අතර ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් තණකොළපෙත්තන් වැනි කෘමි සතුන් ආහාරයට ගනී. මාර්තු සිට අප්‍රියෙල් දක්වා සහ නැවතත් ජුලි සිට සැප්තැම්බර් දක්වා කාලයේ තණ පඳුරක මධ්‍යයට වන්නට මනාව සැගවෙන ආකාරයෙන් කූඩුවක් සාදා එහි බිත්තර තුනක් හෝ හතරක් දමා අභිජනනයේ යෙදේ. කූඩුව ඉහලින් වෘත්තාකාර කුඩා විවරයක් සහිතව සිලින්ඩරාකාර  ගොටුවක ආකාරයෙන් සාදයි.

අලු ප්‍රීනියා/ අලු හම්බුකුරුල්ලා (Prinia socialis brevicauda)

දිවයින පුරා තෘණභූමි, කුඹුරු සහ ලඳු කැලෑ වල සුලභව දැකිය හැකි දේශීය පක්ෂියෙකි. නමුත් වියලි කලාපයේ වඩාත් සුලභව හමුවේ. යුගල වශයෙන් ජීවත් වන අළු හම්බුකුරුල්ලා කුඩා කෘමීන් සහ මකුළුවන් සහ වෙනත් එවන් කුඩා සතුන් ආහාරයට ගනී. අභිජනනය පෙබරවාරි සිට ජූනි දක්වාත්, අගෝස්තු සිට ඔක්තෝබර් දක්වාත් සිදුවේ.

Grey-breasted Prinia/Franklin's Prinia (Prinia hodgsonii)

An uncommon breeding resident occurs locally from lowlands to mid hills. Much commoner in the dry zone and rare in the wet lowlands. It lives as pairs or as small flocks in forest edges, scrublands and grasslands. Its food consists of small insects such as moths, grasshoppers and caterpillars. The breeding season lasts from March to June. The nest placed within a pocket made by 'sawing' together of two large leaves or few smaller leaves like the Tailor bird. Nest usually build about 2 or 3 feet of the ground and it lays 3 eggs in it.

Annotated checklist of vagrant Cisticolas and allies (Family: Cisticolidae) of Sri Lanka

    Birds that appear outside their normal range are known as vagrants. This post listed up to date published sight records of single *unconfirmed vagrant of the family Cisticolidae (Cisticolas and allies) in Sri Lanka.   

      1)Rufescent Prinia (Prinia rufescens)
Single sight record at Kotte in 1989 by Rex.I. de Silva is the only record (Kotagama S. & Ratnavira G. 2010:283)

අලු ප්‍රීනියා/ අලු හම්බුකුරුල්ලා[Alu Prinia/Alu Hambu Kurulla]Ashy Prinia(Prinia socialis brevicauda)

Common breeding resident inhabiting grasslands, paddy fields and scrubs throughout the island. Much common in the dry zone. It lives as pairs and feeds on small insects, spiders, etc. The breeding season lasts from February to June and August to October.

Jungle Prinia [Ceylon Large Prinia/Ceylon Jungle Wren -Warbler]/කළුවන් හම්බු කුරුල්ලා/වන ප්‍රීනියා [Kaluwan Hambu Kurulla/Wana prinia] (Prinia sylvatica vailda)


Rather uncommon breeding resident much abundant in  dry lowlands while locally occurs throughout the low country wet zone up to mid hills, becoming rarer in the higher hills.  It inhabits scrub lands and grasslands in pairs or as small flocks. Jungle Prinia breeds mainly from February to May  building a nest – an untidy ball of grasses and rootlets bounds with cobwebs – low in tussock or a bush.

Plain prinia (Prinia inornata insularis)

A resident bird locally common in paddy fields, scrub and marsh lands from lowland to lower hills while commoner in the dry zone. Its food mainly consists of insects and spends its time mostly on hopping actively among grass stems solitarily or as pairs in search of them. It breeds probably throughout the year and nest a deep cup of grasses place in grass-tussock or low bush often few feets above the ground (or water since usually it is situated in a swamp).

Zitting Cisticola/Fantail warbler/Streaked Fantail warbler/Hambu kurulla[S] (Cisticola juncidis)

Common resident bird in tall grasslands, marsh lands, tank edges and paddy fields throughout the island from sea coast to higher hills like Horton plains national park. It feeds manly on insects like grasshoppers. Breeding season last from March to April and July to September. It build  a nest a cylindrical pocket with a small circular opening at the top well hidden among middle of a tussock of grass and lays three or four pinkish white eggs.
