Abelmoschus ficulneus

 An indigenous undershrub of dry lowland areas. Often cultivated.

කිරි කජු(Wissadula periplocifolia)

 An indigenous annual or perennial woody herb rather common in thickets, roadsides and among vegetation at base of granite outcrops.

තෙලකීරිය/Blind-your-eye Tree (Excoecaria agallocha)

 An indigenous shrub or tree of tidal forests (Mangroves) along  the coast and estuaries. 

ගොඩ රත්මල්/කොසත්ත (Blachia umbellata)

An indigenous shrub or small tree of medium to low elevation open forests of wet to intermediate zones, open places along watercourses and roadsides. 

Glycosmis mauritiana

 An indigenous shrub of open forests in coastal and lowland areas both moist and rather dry country. Locally common. 

Murdannia simplex

 An indigenous perennial with basal rosette.  Locally common in shallow soil over rocks,  wet rocky and roadside banks from 875 to 900 m elevations. Flowering in December.

මා එඬරු (Mallotus resinosus)

An indigenous shrub or small tree common in both wet and dry rainforests up to 700 m elevations. 

Pilea melastomoides

 
An indigenous tall herb or undershrub common in damp shady places of wet zone forests from 700 to 2000 m elevations. Flowering and fruiting from March to September.

කැහිපිත්තන්/කැසිපිත්තන් [Kehipiththan/Kesipiththan] (Cyclea peltata)

 An indigenous slender woody climber, locally common in lowland forests and waste and cultivated grounds up to 700  m elevations. 

නරි අල [Nari Ala] (Coelogyne imbricata [Syn: Pholidota imbricata])

 

An indigenous epiphyte common on trees or rocks in wet evergreen forests, extending to montane forests from 457 to 1524 m elevations. 

පෙනෙල/Soap Fruit Tree (Sapindus emarginatus [Syn: Sapindus emarginata])

An indigenous medium-sized to large tree common in dry zone forests up to 500 m elevations. Flowering from March to April and fruiting from May to July.

Phyllanthus sp.

 An endemic or indigenous subshrub occurs above 900 m elevations in the Knuckles range. Rather similar to the Phyllanthus baillonianus but with cream-white flowers. Probably an addition to the flora of Sri Lanka, first recorded in Vlas de J., 2019 with only male flowers (Female flowers are also shown here).

Phyllanthus rheedei

An indigenous perennial herb rare in montane forests from 1000 to 2000 m or higher. 

හුණුකිරිල්ල (Glochidion candolleanum)

An indigenous shrub or small tree of montane forests above 1000 m elevation.

* Glochidion pachycarpum Alston  and Glochidion pycnocarpum (Muell.Arg.) Beddome  are synonyms. 

Commicarpus chinensis [Syn: Boerhavia chinensis]

A straggling herb of hedges and scrub borders in the intermediate lowlands. Probably a native plant of Sri Lanka.  Flowering from March to April. 

කරපිංචා/Curry Leaf (Bergera koenigii [Syn: Murraya koenigii])

 An indigenous shrub or small tree of low country, especially in the dry zone. Also cultivated for its leaves ,an essential ingredient in cooking curries.  Flowering in August and December. 

Pilea wightii

An indigenous herb common in forests and shady places of montane wet zone from 1500 to 2300 m elevations. Flowering and fruiting from October to April.

Male flower size - 4 mm across

Female flower size - 1.5 mm across

Cheirostylis flabellata

 An indigenous terrestrial  tiny herb occurs under shade of trees along pathways and hill cuttings in the montane forests from 900 to 2100 m elevations. Rare.

Flower size - 5-6 mm across

Biophytum nudum

An indigenous erect herb or undershrub. Locally rather common in open places of the montane region from 1300 to 2000 m elevations. Flowering from March to September.  

Rostellularia mollissima [Syns: Rostellularia latispica, Justicia procumbens subsp. latispica]

Common native annual herb grows among grass on the slopes of patana lands of the montane areas, generally above 2000 m a.s.l. Flowering throughout the year.
