Lesser Sri Lanka Flameback/Red-backed Woodpecker/කෑරලා (Dinopium psarodes)

 An endemic and very common bird inhabiting forests, cultivations and home gardens of lowlands and hills in all zones except the northern part of the country. It lives as pairs and feeds on ants and such other insects found inside tree barks and occasionally on ground. It breeds from March to June and again from August to September in a nest excavated into the branch or the trunk of a tree.
