An uncommon breeding resident locally occurs in dry open grounds and grasslands of coastal areas and tank edges of dry lowlands, supplemented by winter migrants, sometime in large numbers. It lives as small to large flocks. Oriental Pratincole is crepuscular in habits and during the day time spends resting on the ground or running here and there in a plover-like manner. It feeds on flying insects like beetles, moths, termites. etc. on the wing during the early morning and evening, usually as flocks. It breeds from March to July by laying two eggs on ground without any nest, but usually on a dried cow-pat.
