Largest
pigeon of the island and a resident of forests from lowland to lower hills. Usually
found in upper canopy. Living as pairs or as small flocks (especially during
fruiting season of varies trees). It is arboreal and feeds on fruits mainly in the morning and
again in the evening.

ReplyDeleteThere are 3 pairs come to my garden every morning and evening for 2 years. Before this i had never seen this bird in my area. Jaela bopitiya. Fortunately no need to catch them. They come everyday and stay in my garden several hours.
ReplyDeleteYes they have been spreading in to Colombo suburban areas since sometime back though it was not observed there 2-3 decades before.
DeleteI think that one Family (3 birds)coming to our cherry tree and some people who are saying that Bata goya,Neela maha goya but Birds scientist are recognized as Imperial Green pigeon. Any way we are thanks giving to Nature God and Jesus christ bkz Surprising Refreshing giving us every morning...
DeleteToday this evening I think I spotted this one with two other small pigeons ..so large in size compared to the other two.

ReplyDeleteI have seen a pair of this bird for the first time near my house at Torrington avenue ,colombo 05...i was surprised coz this is first time i have seen these birds in colombo.

ReplyDeleteI have seen pair of this bird since 3 years near my home. They spent night on a tall tree. Today A baby of this bird was found on the ground. As their nest has been damaged by tree branch cutting staff of electricity board yesterday.
ReplyDeleteSadly, this morning a beautiful Green Imperial Pigeon flew into our window and was killed instantly. This is the first one we have seen here in Imbulgoda (Gampaha District). I do hope our tree filled estate has more of these stunningly beautiful birds.
