Blue Admiral (Kaniska canace haronica)

Rather uncommon butterfly occurs in moist areas while more common in the hill country. Often found close to forest streams. It is a migratory species. Larva feeds on Smilax perfoliata (මහා කබරොස්ස) and Smilax zeylanica (හීන් කබරැස්ස).

  1. A seemingly "restless" species . But will often return to the same place over and over to bask . when it flight (especially if it flies past you ) has a sort of humming sound (like a muffled bee ) . and once it settles, it stays there! very docile when that happens .
