Rather uncommon breeding resident, locally occurred in the dry lowlands to drier hills, though much rare in the hills. Occasionally visits the wet zone. Possibly also a winter migrant. It avoids deep forests and inhabits the open country, scrubs, open forests, etc. as solitary birds, small groups or as pairs. It feeds mainly on insects and such small animals taken on ground by turning over fallen leaves. Common Hoopoe breeds in a hole of a tree, bank or a building from November to April and possibly again in June to July. It lays four to seven eggs and the female bird only incubates, while male bird feeds her during that period as it is with Hornbills.
