Eurasian Wigeon/රන් පාට තාරාවා/රන්කිරුළු ගවි-සේරුවා [Ranpata Tharawa/Rankirulu Gavi-Seruwa] (Mareca penelope)
Common winter migrant to salt or brackish lagoons, salt-pans, estuaries and even freshwater tanks in the northern areas of the country. Occasionally observed also in other lowland areas. While in Sri Lanka it keeps in small to large flocks and rests during the day time on fresh or salt open water. It feeds on roots, stem and leaves of grasses and other plants grows in shallow water at night, often up-ending.
