මිරිස් [Miris]/Chilli/Red pepper (Capsicum annuum)

Native plant probably of Mexico to Colombia. Now widely cultivated in plantations and home gardens. Occasionally escaped.

    This was introduced by or during the times of the Portuguese, i.e. 16-17 centuries. However it had changed our culinary habits drastically. It has similarly affected India too.
