Fairly rare but regular winter migrant to the low country marshlands, grassy tank edges, wet paddy fields and likes. It is mainly nocturnal and usually solitary snipe feeds on earth worms, and insect larvae in muddy grounds by probing deep into mud with its highly sensitive long bill. Common Snipe breeds in Europe, Asia and also in North America.
