White Wagtail/සුදු හැලපෙන්දා (Motacilla alba leucopsis)

White Wagtail is a rare but regular winter migrants to the lowlands. It can be seen on ground of open areas and cultivated lands, often close to water sources. Usually as solitary birds or may be as a scattered flock of few birds, sometimes also associated with other wagtails. It feeds entirely on small insects. As it is with other wagtails White Wagtail also roosts communally in large flocks in a reed bed or similar habitat.

Brown-backed Needletail/කටුපෙඳ තුරිතයා/පිටබොර කටු-තුරිතයා [Katupenda Turitaya/Pitabora Katu-Turitaya] (Hirundapus giganteus)

 Rather uncommon breeding resident, locally occurs throughout the island, mainly in the rain forest areas though visit open country and forests in other areas. It lives as small flocks or as solitary birds and feeds  entirely on flying insects. Brown-backed Needletail breeds from February to April (Harrison J. & Worfolk T., 2011) or August-September (Henry G.M, 1998 & Kotagama, S., Ratnavira, G. 2017) in a big, hollow forest tree. It enter by a hole near the top of the trunk and deposit three to five eggs, without any nest in the bottom of the cavity, often at ground level or even below (Base on Indian observations and so far no nest has been described from Sri Lanka).

Alpine Swift/මහ තුරිතයා/ඇල්පයින් පිරි-තුරිතයා[Maha Turitaya/Alpine Piri-Turitaya] (Tachymarptis melba)

 Rather rare breeding resident inhabiting hills and foot hills. But can be occurred anywhere in the island. It flies as solitary birds or as small flocks, usually with other swifts and feeds entirely on flying insects like moths, beetles, etc. Alpine Swift select cracks and crevices of large rocky areas for roosting and nesting. Nesting period appears to be in the first half of the year. The nest is a shallow cup of straws, feathers, etc. stuck together with its own saliva and glued to wall of crevice or cave on cliff.  It lays probably two or three eggs in it.

පොදු උකුසුගොයා/කොබෙයි උකුස්සා (Falco tinnunculus)

දිවයින පුරා අතරින් පතර ගහකොළ සහිත විවෘත බිම් වලට උත්තර අර්ධ ගෝලයේ ශීත සෘතුව බලපැවෙත්වෙන කාලයේ පැමිණෙන සංක්‍රමණික පක්ෂීන් ලෙසින් මෙන්ම (tinnunculus උප විශේෂය එතරම් සුලභ නොවන ලෙසද, interstinctus උප විශේෂය දුර්ලභවද වාර්තා වේ.) කඳුකරයේ අභිජනනය කරන කුඩා දේශීය ගහණයක් (objurgatus උප විශේෂය) ලෙසින්ද මෙරටින් වාර්තා වේ. විවෘත බිම්, වනාන්තර සහ ලඳු කැලෑ වලද හමුවන මෙම පක්ෂියා ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් කටුස්සන් වැනි උරගයන් සහ පළගැටියන් වැනි කෘමීන් ආහාරයට ගනී. එසේම අවස්ථාවක් ලද විට භූමිය මත කූඩු සාදන පක්ෂින්ගේ පැටවුන්ද ගොදුරු කර ගනී. මෙරට තුල අභිජනනය කරන උප විශේෂය මාර්තු සිට ජූනි දක්වා කාලයේ විලෝපිකයන්ට ලගාවිය නොහැකි ප්‍රපාතාකාර බෑවුමක පිහිටි පාෂාණ ගැට්ටක් මත කූඩුවක් නොසාදා බිත්තර දෙකක් හෝ තුනක් තබා අභිජනනය සිදු කරයි. සංක්‍රමණික පක්ෂීන් මෙරට තුල සිටින කාලය තුලදී බොහෝවිට තනි තනි පක්ෂීන් ලෙසින් ඉගිලෙමින්, නිතර එක තැන තටු ගසමින් හෝ උස් ගසක අත්තක් මත වසා අවට නිරීක්ෂණය කරමින් ගොදුරු සොයන ආකාරය දැක ගත හැක.

Seaside Purslane/Shore Purselane/මහ සාරණ (Sesuvium portulacastrum)

 An indigenous prostrate herb common on beaches and near the coast. 

කුඩා කොණ්ඩ මුහුදු ලිහිණියා/හීන් කොණ්ඩ සිළුසුවා (Thalasseus bengalensis)

 මෙරට වෙරළබඩ ප්‍රදේශ වල පිහිටි ලුණු ලේවායන් සහ වැලි පර වලට මෙන්ම කලපු සහ ගං මෝයවල් වලටද උතුරු අර්ධගෝලයේ ශීත සෘතුව බලපැවැත්වෙන කාලයේ පැමිණෙන සංචාරක පක්ෂියෙකි. ඇතැම්විට ගිම්හාන කාලයේ පැමිණෙන පක්ෂීන්ද කලාතුරකින් නිරීක්ෂණය කල හැක. ස්ථානීය වශයෙන් සුලභ පක්ෂියෙක් වන අතර කුඩා හෝ විශාල රංචු ලෙසින් බොහෝවිට වෙනත් මුහුදු ලිහිණින් විශේෂ සමගින් හමුවේ. මාළුන් ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් ගොදුරු කරගන්නා අතර ජල මතුපිටට ආසන්නව පියාඹා යමින් එක්වර තෝරාගත් මාළුවෙකු වෙත වේගයෙන් කිමිදී අල්ලා ගන්නා මත්ස්‍යයා ගුවනේදීම ගිල දමයි.

තෙල් තල [Thel Thala]/Gingerlly (Sesamum indicum)

 An introduced annual herb with origin uncertain (Probably Africa or India). Widely cultivated and also naturalized along roadsides, waste lands and abandoned fields in the dry zone. Flowering from May to August and possibly throughout the year. Seeds edible.

හිස දුඹුරු මුහුදුකපුටා/බොර හිස් ගලුවියා (Larus brunnicephalus)

 ලෝකයේ උතුරු අර්ධගෝලයට ශීත සෘතුව බලපැවැත්වෙන සමයේදී මෙරටට සංක්‍රමණය වන, එම කාලයේදී දිවයිනේ උරුකරයේ වෙරළබඩ ප්‍රදේශ වල සහ කලපු ප්‍රදේශ වල  සුලභව හමුවන පක්ෂියෙකි. කලාතුරකින් දිවයිනේ ගිණිකොන දිග වැනි වෙනත් වෙරළබඩ ප්‍රදේශ වලද නිරීක්ෂණය කල හැක. ඇතැම් විට ගිම්හාන කාලයේදී පැමිණෙන පක්ෂීන්ද හමුවේ. මෙම පක්ෂීන් බොහෝවිට විශාල රංචු වශයෙන් වෙරළට නුදුරු ජලයේ ගිමන් හරින ආකාරය දැකිය හැක. වරායන් අසල ගැවසෙමින් මෙන්ම නැව් පසු පස යමින් ඉවත දමන ආහාර මතද යැපෙන මෙම මුහුදු ළිහිණියා ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් මත්ස්‍යන්ද එයට අමතරව කකුලුවන්, ඉස්සන් සහ මොලුස්කාවන්ද (බෙල්ලන්) ආහාරයට ගනී. මධ්‍යම ආසියාවේ රට අභ්‍යන්තරයට වන්නට පිහිටි විශාල විල් වල අභිජනනය සිදු කරයි.

Common Hoopoe/පොරෝ කුරුල්ලා/පොරෝළුවා[Poro Kurulla/Poroluwa] (Upupa epops)

Rather uncommon breeding resident, locally occurred in the  dry lowlands to drier hills, though much rare in the hills. Occasionally visits the wet zone. Possibly also a winter migrant. It avoids deep forests and inhabits the open country, scrubs, open forests, etc.  as solitary birds, small groups or as pairs.  It feeds  mainly on insects and such small animals taken on ground by turning over fallen leaves. Common Hoopoe breeds in a hole of a tree, bank or a building from November to April and possibly again in June to July. It lays four to seven eggs and the female bird only incubates, while male bird feeds her during that period as it is with Hornbills.

කළු උකුස්සා/බොර පරකුස්සා (Milvus migrans)

 දිවයිනේ උතුරු අන්තයේ, ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් වෙරළබඩ ප්‍රදේශ වල විශේෂයෙන් වෙරළබඩ නගර වල එතරම් සුලභ නොවන ලෙස දැකිය හැකි දේශිය පක්ෂියෙකි. එසේම එම ප්‍රදේශ වලටම සංචාරක පක්ෂීන් මෙරටට පැමිණෙන කාලයේදී පැමිණෙන මෙරට අභිජනනය නොකරන පක්ෂීන්ද සිටින බව නිරීක්ෂණය කර ඇත. කලාතුරකින් දිවයිනේ වෙනත් ප්‍රදේශ වලද වාර්තා වේ. කුඩා රංචු වශයෙන් හෝ තනි තනි පක්ෂීන් වශයෙන් ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් මිනිස් වාසස්ථාන ආශ්‍රිතව ඉවත දමන ආහාර මත යැපෙමින් දිවි ගෙවයි. දෙසැම්බර් සිට අප්‍රියෙල් දක්වා කාලයේ ගසක උඩු වියනේ හෝ පොල් ගසක පොල් අත්ත කඳට සවිවන ස්ථානයේ කෝටු කැබලි ගොඩ ගසා තනන කූඩුවක බිත්තර දෙකේ සිට හතර දක්වා ප්‍රමාණයක් දමා අභිජනනය සිදු කරයි.

පෙඳ කලු මහාවටුවා/කලු පෙඳ ගොහොදුවිත්තා (Limosa limosa)

 වියලි කලාපීය වෙරලාසන්න වගුරු බිම්, මඩ වගුරු, කලපු, කුඹුරු, වැව් ආදියේ මෙන්ම ඇතැම්විට රට අභ්‍යන්තරයට වන්නට පිහිටි එවැනි ස්ථාන වලටද පැමිණෙන සුලභ සංචාරක පක්ෂියෙකි. තනිව හෝ කුඩා හෝ විශාල රංචු ලෙසින් පණුවන්, කෘමීන් සහ ක්‍රස්ටේෂියාවන් ගොදුරු කර ගනී. යුරෝපයේ සහ බටහිර ආසියානු ප්‍රදේශ වල අභිජනනය කරයි.

අළු ඔලෙයියා/අළු මහ ඔලෙවියා(Pluvialis squatarola)

 එතරම් සුලභ නොවන ලෙස වියලි කලාපීය කලපු, මෝයවල්, වෙරලාසන්නව හමුවන මඩ වගුරු, කුඩා දියපාරවල් ආදියේ දැකිය හැකි සංචාරක පක්ෂියෙකි. දුර්ලභව තෙත් කලාපයේ එවන් ස්ථාන වලද කලාතුරකින් හමුවේ. තනිව හෝ විසිරුණු රංචු ලෙසින් බොහෝවිට වෙනත් එවන් ජලජ පක්ෂීන් සමග ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් පණුවන්, බෙල්ලන්, ක්‍රස්ටේෂියාවන් වැනි කුඩා කරදිය සත්වයන් ගොදුරු කරගනිමින් ජීවත් වේ. ආක්ටික් කලාපයේ තුන්ද්‍රා බිම් වල අභිජනනය කරයි.

කෙලවලු බස්සා/බොර සුලාවියා (Sula leucogaster)

 දිවයින වටා වෙරළ තීරයෙන් ඔබ්බෙහි වූ මුහුදු කලාපයට සහ කළාතුරකින් වෙරළ කලාපයටද පැමිණෙන දුර්ලභ නමුත් නිත්‍ය සංචාරක පක්ෂීයෙකි. තනි තනි පක්ෂීන් ලෙසින් හෝ කුඩා රංචු ලෙසින් නිතර සාගරයේ ජල තලයට ආසන්නව පියාඹා යමින් වරින් වර ජලයේ කිමිදෙමින් මත්ස්‍යින් ගොදුරු කරගනී. හොඳින් පීනීමටද හැකියාවක් ඇති අතර මුදුදේ ජල තලය මත වසා ගිමන් හැරීම සිදු කරයි. රාත්‍රි කාලයේදී බොහෝවිට ගල් මත, මුහුදේ පාවෙන බෝයා මත හෝ නැව් වල කුඹ ගස් මත ලගී. සාගරයේ ඇති කුඩා දූපත් වල පොළොවේ බිත්තර එකක් හෝ දෙකක් දමා එක් පැටවෙකු පමණක් බෝකිරීම සිදු කරයි. ලංකාවේ බටහිර වෙරළේ උතුරේ සිට දකුණු දිශාවට වාර්ෂිකව සිදුවන මුහුදු පක්ෂීන්ගේ පර්යටනයේදී මෙම පක්ෂීන්ද ගමන් කරන ආකාරය නිරීක්ෂණය කර ඇත.
