ගොළු කිරළා ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් වියලි කලාපීය වෙරළබඩ ප්‍රදේශ වල හමුවන දේශීය පක්ෂියෙකි. කලාතුරකින් තෙත් කලාපයේ වෙරළබඩ ප්‍රදේශ වලත් හමුවේ. ජෝඩු වශයෙන් හෝ කුඩා රංචු වශයෙන් දිවි ගෙවන මෙම පක්ෂියා දිවා කාලයේදී කුඩා පඳුරක සෙවනේ බිම ලැග සිට හවස් යාමයේදී ක්‍රියාශීලි වේ. සවස් යාමයේ සහ රාත්‍රී කාලයේ පොළොව මත සිටින  පළගැටියන්, කුරුමිණියන්, වේයන් වැනි කුඩා සතුන් ගොදුරු කර ගන්නා ගොළු කිරළා ජූනි සිට අගෝස්තු දක්වා කාලයේ පොළොව සූරා නොගැඹුරු ලෙස සාරා ගත් වලක බිත්තර දෙකක් දමා අභිජනනය කරයි. බිත්තර පොළොවේ වර්ණ රටා සමග මනාව ගැලපෙන හෙයින් පහසුවෙන් දැක ගත නොහැක.

 මෙරට තුලට සංක්‍රමණික පක්ෂීන් පැමිණෙන උත්තර අර්ධ ගෝලයට ශීත සෘතුව බලපැවැත්වෙන මාස වලදී එතරම් සුලභ නොවන ලෙස දැකිය හැකි පක්ෂියෙකි. තනි පක්ෂීන් වශයෙන් ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් තෙත් කලාපයේ පහත රට ප්‍රදේශ වල සිට කඳුකරයේ පහල උස් මට්ටම දක්වා වනාන්තර සහ හොඳින් ගහකොළ සහිත ස්ථාන වල දිය පාරවල් ආසන්නයේ හමුවන මුත්, ස්ථානීය වශයෙන් දුර්ලභව පහත රට වියලි කලාපයේ සහ කඳුකරයේ මධ්‍යම උස් මට්ටම් වල එවන් පරිසර පද්ධති වලද වාර්තා වේ. ගහක අත්තක් මත සිට පියඹා ගොස් පියාඹන කෘමින් ඩැහැ ගනිමින් නැවත එම ස්ථානයටම හෝ ඒ අසලම ස්ථානයකට ගොස් වසන මෙම පක්ෂියා මෙරට තුල සිටින සම්පූර්ණ කාලයේම බොහෝ විට තෝරාගත් එම ස්ථානයේ නිතර දැකිය හැක.

Olive Keelback/දිය වර්ණයා/කඩොලා [Diya warnaya/Kadola] (Atretium schistosum)

 A non-venomous aquatic snake inhabiting damp places near water bodies such as streams, ponds, wells, paddy fields as well as brackish habitats of mangroves and lagoons from lowlands to about 1000m elevations. It active during the day time and feeds mainly on frogs and fish. Also takes tadpole, aquatic insects, mosquito larva and crabs and other crustaceans. Olive Keelback is a good swimmer and diver which also climbs low bushes near water. It is an oviparous snake breeding during the rainy season from December to April. It lays 10 - 30 eggs inside crevices, under logs or in leaf litter among stones near water.

Yellow-eyed Babbler/නෙත් කහ තණ දෙමළිච්චා/ඇස් කහ දෙමළිච්චා [/Neth Kaha Tana Demalichcha/As Kaha Demalichcha] (Chrysomma sinense)

Uncommon and local breeding resident of grasslands and scrublands from lowlands to mid hills. Much common in the dry lowlands and rare in the wet zone and hills. It lives as pairs or as small flocks, skulking mostly in dense shrubbery, feeding mainly on insects. But towards the evening they often perch on twigs in a open place and utter its loud call. Main breeding season lasts from February to May. The nest is a deep cup made out of grass-blades bound with cobwebs, which fastened to several stems of long Mana type grasses, where it lays three or four eggs.

An introduced decumbent or erect herb grows on open, frequently wet places such as margins of paddy fields. Native to tropical and sub tropical America. A recent introduction to Sri Lanka and naturalized in some places in the Knuckles Range.

පහත රට ප්‍රදේශ වල සිට කඳුකරයේ මධ්‍යම උස් මට්ටම් දක්වා ගෙවතු, කුඹුරු, වනාන්තර, විවෘත වනලැහැබ්, වගාබිම් වල මෙන්ම ලඳු කැලෑ වලත් සුලභ ලෙස හමුවන දේශීය පක්ෂියෙකි. ජෝඩු වශයෙන් හෝ කුඩා රංචු වශයෙන් දිවි ගෙවන මෙම වී කුරුල්ලා වී ඇතුලු බොහෝ තණකොල විශේෂ වල බීජ ආහාරයට ගනී. පෙබරවාරි සිට මැයි දක්වා කාලයේ ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් අභිජනනයේ යෙදෙන මුත් බොහෝවිට වසර පුරාම පාහේ පැටවුන් බෝ කිරීම සිදු කරයි. එක් පැත්තකින් ඇතුළු වීමට විවරයක් සහිතව ගසක් හෝ පඳුරක් මත තණකොල පත්‍ර උපයෝගි කරගනිමින් තනන බෝලයක හැඩැති කූඩුවක බිත්තර 4 ත් 6 ත් අතර ප්‍රමාණයක් දමා අභිජනනය සිදු කරයි.

පොල්කිච්චා (Copsychus saularis)

 සියළුම දේශගුණික කලාප වල පිහිටි ගෙවතු, වගා බිම් සහ ලඳු කැලෑ වල ඉතාමත් සුලභ දේශීය පක්ෂියෙකි. එහෙත් ඝන වනාන්තර වල දැකිය නොහැක. තනි පක්ෂීන් ලෙසින් හෝ ජෝඩු වශයෙන් හැසිරෙමින් ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් පොළොව මත සිටින කෘමීන් ගොදුරු කරගන්නා පොල්කිච්චා ඊට අමතරව නිවාස වලින් අහක දමන බත්, පාන් වැනි දේද ආහාරයට ගනී. ගොම්මන් වේලාව ගෙවුන පසුව පවා ක්‍රියාශීලීව හැසිරෙන මෙම පක්ෂියාගේ පිරිමි කුරුල්ලා  උස ගසක් මත හෝ ලාම්පු කණුවක් මත සිට නගන වසම් වෙන් කරගැනීමේ නාදය උදෑසන හිරු නැග ඒමටත් පෙර සිටම ඇසිය හැක. ඇතැම් විට පිරිමි පක්ෂීන් අතර දරුණු සටන් ඇතිවන ආකාරද නිරීක්ෂණය කර ඇත. වසරේ මාර්තු සිට සැප්තැම්බර් දක්වා කාලයේ ගසක බෙනයක් තුල තණකොල සහ කෙඳි වර්ග එකතු කර සදන කූඩුවක බිත්තර දෙකක් හෝ තුනක් දමා අභිජනනය කරයි.

Rufous Bellied Eagle/බඩරතු රාජාලියා/කුසරත් සිළුකුස්සා [Badaratu Rajaliya/Kusarath Silukussa ] (Lophotriorchis kienerii)

Rather rare breeding resident of forests and such well-wooded areas throughout the country. It lives as solitary birds or as pairs. Rufous Bellied Eagle feeds mainly on birds, mostly doves and pigeons, which it capture on the wing by stooping from a height, with wings nearly closed and winglets elevated, rather like falcons. Also takes small mammals and reptiles. The breeding season lasts from December to March and it build a nest, a large pile of sticks lined with green leaves placed in a tree and lays a single egg.

පහත රට තෙත් කලාපයේ වනාන්තර සහ එවැනි මනාව ගහ කොළ සහිත වෙනත් ස්ථාන වලත්, වනාන්තර අවට ගෙවතු වලත්  වියලි කලාපයේ ඝන වනාන්තර වලත් ස්ථානීය වශයෙන් සුලභ දේශීය පක්ෂියෙකි. මුහුදු මට්ටමේ සිට මීටර 1500 දක්වා කඳුකරයේ හමුවන මුත් දිවයිනේ උතුරු අන්තයේ හමු නොවේ. ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් කෘමීන් සහ පළතුරු ආහාරයට ගන්නා කහ කොණ්ඩයා ජෝඩු වශයෙන් හෝ කුඩා රංචු ලෙසින් ජීවත් වේ. මාර්තු සිට අප්‍රියෙල් දක්වා හෝ අගෝස්තු සිට සැප්තැම්බර් දක්වා කාලයේ ගසක කරුවක හෝ අත්තක කෙලවරේ වෙනත් සතුන්ට පහසුවෙන් ලගාවිය නොහැකි තැනක එල්ලා වැටෙන ආකාරයෙන් හෝ වියලි කොළ, සිහින් ගස් මුල් සහ මකුළු දැල් උපයෝගී කරගෙන කෝප්පයක හැඩයට තනන කූඩුවක බිත්තර දෙකක් දමා අභිජනනය කරයි.

සියළුම දේශගුණික කලාප වල සුලබ දේශීය පක්ෂියෙකි. කඳුකරයේ තරමක් දුර්ලභය. බොහෝවිට වනාන්තර අද්දර, කුඹුරු ආදී ගහකොළ සහිත විවෘත බිම් වල හමුවේ. දුරකතන සහ විදුලි රැහැන් මත නිතර දැකිය හැක. පක්ෂීන් 10-15 පමණ සහිත කුඩා රංචු ලෙසින් හෝ ඇතැම්විට ජෝඩු වශයෙන් හමුවේ. ගුවනේ පියාඹන කෘමීන් ගොදුරු කර ගන්නා මෙම පක්ෂියා පෙබරවාරි සිට ජූනි දක්වා කාලයේදී තාල වර්ගයේ ගසක අත්ත ගසට සම්බන්ධ වන ස්ථානයේ හෝ මැරුණ ගසක කොටයක් මත කුඩා ශාක මුල් සහ කෙඳි උපයෝගි කරගනිමින් නොගැඹුරු කෝප්පයක හැඩැති කූඩුවක් තනා බිත්තර 3 ක් පමණ දමා  අභිජනනය කරයි. මෙම පක්ෂියා කාලගුණ තත්වයන් මත හෝ කෘමීන්ගේ සුලභතාවය අනුව නිතර රට තුල වෙනත් ප්‍රදේශ කරා සංක්‍රමණය වන පක්ෂියෙකු ලෙස සැලකේ.

මහ දියකාවා (Phalacrocorax carbo)

 පහත රට වියලි කලාපයේ විශාල වැව් සහ කලපු වල තරමක් දුර්ලභ ලෙස හමුවන දේශීය පක්ෂියෙකි. ඉතාමත් දුර්ලභ ලෙස පහත රට තෙත් කලාපයේ සහ කඳුකරයේ වාර්තා වේ. දක්ෂ ලෙස කිමිදෙමින් මසුන් ගොදුරු කරගන්නා මහ දියකාවා කුඩා රංචු ලෙසින් බොහෝවිට වෙනත් දියකාවන් සහ වෙනත් එවන් ජලය ආශ්‍රිතව වෙසෙන පක්ෂීන් සමග දැකිය හැක. දෙසැම්බර් සිට පෙබරවාරි දක්වා කාලයේ සමූහ වශයෙන් නොගැඹුරු ජලයේ ඇති ගස් මුදුන් වල අතු පතර කූඩු තනා අභිජනනයේ යෙදේ.

කළු තුරිතයා/පුංචි තුරිතයා (Apus affinis)

පහත රට ප්‍රදේශ වල සිට කඳුකරය දක්වා, විශේෂයෙන් විශාල ගල් තලා අසල ස්ථානීය වශයෙන් සුලභ දේශීය පක්ෂියෙකි. විශාල විසිරුණු රංචු ලෙසින් පියාඹන කෘමීන් ගොදුරු කරගනිමින් වේගයෙන් පියාඹන පුංචි තුරිතයන් බොහෝවිට වෙනත් තුරිතයන් විශේෂ මෙන්ම වැහිලිහිණියන් සමගද එකට දැකිය හැක. වසරේ මුල් මාස වල අභිජනනයේ යෙදෙන මෙම පක්ෂියා ගල් ගුහාවක වහලයේ හෝ පාලමක යටිපැත්ත වැනි ස්ථානයක හෝ වෙනත් එවැනි තැනක තණකොළ, පිදුරු සහ පිහාටු සිය කෙල වලින් එකට අලවා තනන විශාල කෝප්පයක හැඩැති කූඩු සමූහ වශයෙන් තනා අභිජනනය කරයි. බොහෝවිට එම කූඩු ලැග සිටීම සඳහාද භාවිතා කරන බැවින් වසර පුරාම පාහේ පුංචි තුරිතයන් එම කූඩු පිහිටි ස්ථානය අවට නිතර දැක ගත හැක.

පෝරු කෑදැත්තා/පොරෝ කෑදැත්තා (Anthracoceros coronatus)

 වියලි කලාපයේ පහත රට ප්‍රදේශ වල සිට කඳුකරයේ පහල උස මට්ටම දක්වා වනාන්තර සහ එවැනි ගහකොළ සහිත පරිසර වල සුලභ දේශීය පක්ෂියෙකි. ගංගා ඉවුරු වල ඇති උස ගස් වල ජෝඩු ලෙසින් සහ විශාල රංචු ලෙසින් නිතර හමුවේ. නුග, පලු වැනි කුඩා ගෙඩි වර්ග ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් ආහාරයට ගන්නා පොරෝ කෑදැත්තා ඊට අමතරව කුඩා සතුන්ද ගොදුරු කරගනී. අප්‍රියෙල් සිට අගෝස්තු දක්වා කාලයේ අභිජනනය කරන මෙම පක්ෂියාගේ ගැහැණු සතා ගස් බෙනයක් තුල බිත්තර දමා එය තුලම සිටින අතර පිරිමි පක්ෂියා මඩ වලින් බෙනයේ කට මුද්‍රා තබයි. පැටවුන් තරමක් වැඩී බෙනය තුල ඉඩ මද වන විට ගැහැණු පක්ෂියා බෙනයේ මුද්‍රා කඩාගෙන පිටතට පැමිණ නැවතත් එය මුද්‍රා තබයි. පැටවුන් ප්‍රමාණවත් තරමට වැඩුණු පසු නැවත එම මුද්‍රාව කඩාගෙන ඔවුන් එලියට පැමිණෙන අතර, එතෙක් ගැහැණු සහ පිරිමි පක්ෂියා ඔවුනට ආහාර සපයයි. ගැහැණු සතා බෙනය තුල සිරවී සිටින කාලය තුලද පිරිමි සතා එහි ඇති කුඩා විවරයකින් ගැහැණු සතා හට ආහාර සැපයීම සිදු කරයි.

Ceylon Spider Lilly/වල් ලූනු (Pancratium zeylanicum)

An indigenous herb rather common in lowlands. Often cultivated. Flowering more or less throughout the year. 

Slate Flash (Rapala manea schistacea)

 Rather common butterfly flies all the year round in open scrublands, forest edges and secondary vegetations throughout the island up to about 1300 m a.s.l. It is much common towards the tail end of both monsoons. Its larva feeds on tender flower buds and flowers of Urena lobata, flowers and tender leaves of Lepisanthes tetraphylla in the dry zone and intermediate zone, flowers of Ziziphus mauritiana in the arid zone and flowers of Cassia roxburghii at Nilgala.

දිවයින පුරා සියළුම දේශගුණික කලාප වල ග්‍රාමීය මෙන්ම නාගරික ගෙවතු වල මෙන්ම, හොඳින් ගහකොළ සහිත ස්ථාන වලත් ඉතාමත් සුලභ ලෙස හමුවන දේශිය පක්ෂියෙකි.  නිතර හඩ නගමින් ඔවුනොවුන් අතර සම්බන්ධය තබා ගනිමින්, ජෝඩු වශයෙන් ගස් සහ පඳුරු වල අතු අතර හැසිරෙමින්, කුඩා කෘමීන්, මකුළුවන් වැනි සතුන් ගොදුරු කරගනී. බොහෝවිට වසර පුරාම පාහේ අභිජනනය කරන මුත් ප්‍රධාන වශයෙන් පෙබරවාරි-මාර්තු අතර කාලයේ විශාල කොලයක දෙපස එකට එකතු කර මසා හෝ කොල දෙකක් හෝ කිහිපයක් එකට තබා මසා තනන කූඩුවක බිත්තර දෙකක් හෝ තුනක් දමා පැටවුන් බිහිකරයි.

කළුවන් හම්බු කුරුල්ලා/වන ප්‍රීනියා (Prinia sylvatica vailda)

එතරම් සුලභ නොවන ලෙස පහත රට වියලි කලාපයේ ලඳු කැලෑ සහ තෘණ භූමිවලත්, පහත රට තෙත් කලාපයේ අතරින් පතර ස්ථානීය වශයෙන් කඳුකරයේ මධ්‍යම උස් මට්ටම් දක්වාත් හමුවන දේශීය පක්ෂියෙකි. ඉහල කඳුකරය දෙසට යන විට වඩාත් දුර්ලභ වේ. ජෝඩු ලෙසින් හෝ කුඩා රංචු ලෙසින් සැරිසරන මෙම පක්ෂියා වසරේ පෙබරවාරි සිට මැයි දක්වා කාලයේ තණකොල සහ මුල් කෑලි ආදිය මකුළු දැල් වලින් එකතු කර තණකොල පඳුරක හෝ වෙනත් එවැනි පඳුරක පහල මට්ටමේ බෝලයක හැඩය ඇති කූඩුවක් තනා එහි බිත්තර 2- 4 අතර ප්‍රමාණයක් දමා අභිජනනය කරයි.

An indigenous tree locally common, especially in ravines and along river banks of wet and intermediate  zone forests up to 800 (-1300) m elevations.

An indigenous small to medium-sized tree of wet lowlands to hill country forests. Rather common in the intermediate zone and occurs also in the Ritigala hill. Flowering from March to July.

වල් ජම්බු/ජම්බු (Syzygium amphoraecarpus)

An endemic medium-sized tree common in Southwestern Sri Lanka including the Knuckles from sea level to about 1500 m altitudes in wet and intermediate zones. 

Horse Radish Tree/Drumstick Tree/මුරුංගා[Murunga]/ (Moringa oleifera)

 An introduced tree native to tropical Asia. Cultivated in home gardens, along roads and also as fence posts and boundary trees for demarcation in the dry zones chenas. Tender pods, leaves and flowers are used as vegetables. Root bark, leaves and seed oils are used in Ayurvedic medicine, especially for snake bites.
